Your Tesla Wrap Is Missing? Check These Four Things Before Downloading Another PNG

You picked a design, copied the file, and opened Paint Shop. The wrap is missing. Downloading another design is tempting, but it can repeat the same problem if the filename, folder, or vehicle template is wrong.

Start with one PNG and work through four checks: the vehicle template, the exported file, the transfer route, and the feature menu. That gives you a specific thing to fix at each stage.

This guide covers the digital vehicle visualization in Tesla Paint Shop. It does not install a physical vinyl wrap or change the vehicle's paint.

1. Check which template the download uses

An attractive thumbnail cannot identify the panel map underneath it. Tesla's official custom-wrap repository lists separate Model Y templates, including Standard, Premium, and Performance versions for 2025+ vehicles, plus Model Y L.

Before editing or importing a download, record the template folder it was built from. A file described only as "Model Y wrap" needs a closer look if your vehicle uses a different listed layout. Matching image dimensions alone does not establish that the panel placement is correct.

Keep the selected official template's canvas dimensions. If artwork is misplaced after it appears in Paint Shop, revisit this template choice; a different USB folder will not fix the design's mapping.

2. Check the exported file, not its preview

Tesla's README specifies PNG format, a maximum file size of 1 MB, and a filename of no more than 30 characters using letters, numbers, underscores, dashes, or spaces.

  • Export as PNG. Renaming a JPEG's extension does not convert it.
  • Check the actual file size after export.
  • Use a short name with permitted characters. A hypothetical example is pink-side.png.
  • Preserve the chosen template's canvas instead of stretching an unrelated image to fit.

If the PNG is too large, optimize a copy and inspect the artwork again. Keep your editable source separately so that reducing file size does not become repeated editing of a flattened download.

3. Check the route you actually used

For the app route, Tesla documents version 4.59.0 or later and Creations > Wrap > Upload. Confirm that Creations is available in your app, then follow its displayed upload steps. The app version requirement does not by itself prove availability on every vehicle.

For USB, create a folder named exactly Wraps at the root of the drive and place the PNG directly inside it. An extra enclosing folder from an extracted download can leave the file in the wrong place.

Tesla lists exFAT, FAT32, MS-DOS FAT, ext3, and ext4 as supported drive formats. Its instructions say NTFS is not supported and advise against mixing wrap files with map or firmware updates. Inspect the existing format first; formatting erases a drive's contents.

The documented limits are up to ten custom wraps from the app and up to ten from USB. Diagnose with a single file before building a larger collection.

4. Separate a missing menu from a missing file

Tesla documents the in-car path as Toybox > Paint Shop > Wraps. If the Wraps feature is absent, changing a filename cannot establish compatibility. Check the vehicle's interface and current Tesla guidance.

If the menu is present but the file is absent, return to the PNG size, name, folder location, and transfer checks. If the file appears with misplaced artwork, return to the template. These observations point to different parts of the workflow.

For a longer walkthrough, keep the download and import checklist open while checking your own file.
