Canadian EV Owner Shocked by โ‚ฌ14,500 Bill for 30-Minute Charging Session

A Canadian electric vehicle owner was shocked to receive a โ‚ฌ14,500 electricity bill after what should have been just a 30-minute charging session. The Kia EV9 driver charged at a Hypercharge station in May 2025, using only 4.91 kilowatt-hours of energy. However, a technical glitch caused the loading system to lose its wireless connection to the provider's central server, preventing proper registration when the vehicle disconnected. Instead of billing for actual usage, the system continued charging a fixed hourly rate for over 460 days, believing the car was still connected. The charging provider has since terminated the erroneous session in their control system, stopping the accumulating charges.
