World's Oldest Living Person Turns 117
She was already alive when the First World War began in 1914 and has watched kings and presidents come and go: British Ethel Caterham celebrates her 117th birthday today, making her the oldest living person on Earth.
She does not yet hold the record for the oldest person ever - she currently ranks eighth on that list. Caterham is marking the day with friends and family, reports the BBC. She lives in a care home in Lightwater, Surrey, England.
She is one of the oldest people ever to have survived a coronavirus infection, having caught it in 2020 at the age of 110.
Last year, at her 116th birthday, she received a visit from Britain's King Charles. She described that meeting as an absolute highlight. She says she looks forward to what the coming year will bring.
Her husband Norman and their two daughters have passed away.
