The trend of dumping lots of data onto just one screen. I fucking hate bad GUIs.
In the recent years, it looks like the people have completely forgotten how to create proper GUIs, menus && whatnot. /* At least some of them have, anyway. */
Either the designers are fucking retarded, sitting in front of their awesome large screens, so they design screens for their setups or they are never taught properly && told "Listen. Your task is to design a screen for (...) menu. Keep in mind that the game will be played on many types of screen sizes && the text in there will later be localized, so its length will increase. You need to account for those.". Or... it's a combination of both.
Because of this lack of guidance or self-awareness, we are dealing w/ GUIs that tend to have way too much text && the solution is to 'fit' that text in those spaces, which most often means shrinking the text to the size of its designated area.
Sometimes, you need a fucking magnifying glass to read those.
I remember the times when people would know exactly how to create those screens. Designers would be reminded that the players will be sitting some three meters away from a TV, or the game will be released on a handheld, so they have to make the screens legible on those screens. Text would be large && easy on the eyes. We'd have pagination, sometimes scrolling text fields. I miss those days.
I fucking hate bad GUIs.
