German Family Digs Up Over a Thousand Human Bones and Teeth While Renovating Garden

A family in Braunschweig, Germany made a grisly discovery while renovating their garden: over a thousand human bones and teeth. Felix Chall, 35, and his wife bought the house in the Dibbesdorf district two years ago. When they began removing old paving to create flower beds, they found the first bone. Now, days rarely pass without finding more.

The family of five has unearthed over a thousand bones and teeth, sometimes in larger skeletal sections. Experts confirmed the remains belong to both children and adults, estimated to be between 50 and 100 years old.

A pathologist confirmed the bones were human, and an investigation found no signs of violent crime. The German Public Prosecutor's Office has dismissed it as a criminal case. The identity of the deceased may never be known, as no personal belongings were found alongside the remains.

A historian noted that while such discoveries are not unusual near churches, there is no church or known cemetery nearby. However, a local resident reported that during construction work in the 1960s, soil from an old graveyard was used to fill plots in the area. He recalled finding bones himself as a child on a building site.

Chall finds this explanation incomplete, noting that some bones were found arranged in patterns, inconsistent with disturbed fill soil. He hopes the remains will eventually be given a dignified burial. "If they were my family members, I would want them to be treated well."
