Loose Dog Forces Temporary Closure of Major Highway Tunnel

Not a traffic accident, but a stray dog caused major delays on the A16 motorway in the Netherlands. The animal wandered into the Drechttunnel between Zwijndrecht and Dordrecht, forcing the tunnel to close temporarily.

CCTV footage from Rijkswaterstaat shows the dog calmly walking through the tunnel as traffic was brought to a standstill. Officers attempted to catch the animal but failed initially, as the dog ran off and managed to evade capture. Eventually, with the help of other road users, the dog was caught.

How the dog ended up on the motorway remains unclear. No injuries or damage were reported, and traffic resumed shortly after the dog was secured.
