Turkish Governor Fired for Wearing Tight Cycling Shorts

The governor of Ardahan province in Turkey, Mehmet Fatih Cicekli, has been dismissed by President Recep Erdogan after photographs of him in a cycling outfit spread across social media.

The photos show Cicekli in a full cycling kit: white helmet, dark goggles, red jersey, and tight black shorts. The apparent offense was that the shape of his crotch is visible through the form-fitting shorts.

An opposition politician declared the outfit unacceptable for a governor. "He walks around in leggings. That is not how a governor should present himself," he said, sparking heated debate in the Turkish parliament.

Cicekli defended himself in an interview with the Turkish newspaper BirGun, emphasizing that the clothing is sportswear worn only during training sessions. "I practice several sports including sailing, rowing, and cycling. I do not wear these clothes during work hours."

When asked about his next steps after losing his job, the former governor had a simple reply: "I am going to do even more sports."

The case has drawn international attention as a curious example of how personal image expectations for public officials can clash with private recreation.
