New manager
We were told about a new Engineering Manager today (it's her first day). Kinda suddenly announced, even though they must have given her an offer a while back. The VP privately told me he wanted two managers and was trying to secure the second position. Originally he wanted me to go the Staff/Principal engineer route. I was leaning more that direction anyway since it would only involve being on-site 1 day a week occasionally instead of 3 days a week always.
But I said I was still interested in management when he asked two weeks ago. I kinda hope I'm off the hook, but I do feel sorry for her if they give her the entire, massive current team (It's 10~14 people I think? I'm often confused who's actually on our team or is just on loan from another team).
I've been applying for other positions constantly too and haven't gotten a single phone call or screening request yet. This market sucks.

Don't feel sorry, get off the boat asap (if you can)
Get off the boat is a bit extreme.
Typical IT guy rationale. Don't feel bad - everyone walks their own path and so on.
IT people are really nice.
Depends. But sure. Have yet to meet a dickhead.
