Anthropic gives Claude subscribers five more days with Fable 5
Anthropic was scheduled to remove included access to its flagship Fable model from its subscription accounts today, July 7, and move it to a pay-per-token model for the time being. But the company has now extended the deadline to July 12.
So if you burned up all your Fable allowance earlier this week to make sure you squeezed the last token out of your subscription, but didn't get to finish that project, here's a bit of a reprieve for you. Like before, Fable will be included in your existing plan for up to 50% of your weekly usage limits.
Did Anthropic plan to do this all along and is now basking in an extra PR cycle? Probably. But given that the model was available for a somewhat shorter period than originally planned before, it seems like the right thing to do for Anthropic, too.
Background
Fable was originally supposed to be available to paid Claude users from June 9 to June 22, but it was only usable for about three days until the U.S. government intervened. The model finally returned on July 1.
New Deadline: July 12
The company always said that it would bring Fable back to its subscription plans once it could bring enough capacity online. It seems likely that the new July 12 deadline will hold, though, and that Anthropic will move to usage-credit billing on July 12 at precisely 11:59:59pm PT.
Until then, though, you'll be able to once again use Fable with your subscription to finish that project (or run some in-depth security audits).
