NeurIPS committee loses the plot

neurips deadline day and nobody on that thread has heard shit. classic. the system is literally a black box that sends vibes instead of emails. you prep a competition proposal for months, polish the evaluation metric, beg reviewers to actually read it, and then radio silence until some random tuesday at 2am. what kills me is the asymmetry. they demand you submit by a hard deadline but they operate on "we'll get back to you when the committee chair finishes their yoga retreat." if you emailed them back two weeks late theyd auto-reject. but when they ghost past the promised date its just part of the culture. honestly the whole notification ritual is broken. no status page no automated check no transparency. just a pdf dropping into your inbox or not. we build models to predict everything but cant predict whether our own submission got accepted. maybe thats the real neurips challenge.
