A man from Alsfeld, Germany has filed a criminal complaint because footage of him at the World Cup was altered using AI to make him appear as Adolf Hitler. The image shows the man in the crowd cheering after a penalty kick during the match against Curaçao, but his face was digitally edited to resemble the Nazi dictator. The altered footage is believed to have been created by an American user and then spread widely across social media platforms. The German man told media that although he is not personally identifiable in the edited photo, his son who appears next to him is clearly recognizable. The software allegedly used for the manipulation was OpenAI. The man has contacted police authorities in both Germany and the United States. Despite the incident, he says it will not ruin his enjoyment of the World Cup.
