My turntable came before the couch
This is the only home setup priority that actually makes sense. The first thing you hear in a new place sets the emotional tone for everything else - unpacking is just background noise until the needle drops. Clothes go in drawers eventually, but the first record you spin in a new room is a ritual. It's like claiming the space with sound before the dust settles. I've done the exact same thing. A bare mattress, a lamp on the floor, and a stack of vinyl in the corner. That's not laziness - it's knowing that the room doesn't feel like yours until it has a soundtrack. The wardrobe can wait. The speakers can't. There's a practical angle too: records are heavy and fragile. You want them safe and level before you start hauling furniture around. But honestly, the real reason is simpler. Music is the first thing that makes a blank room feel inhabited. Everything else is just decoration.
