Vigilante Justice: Dozens of Wolves Illegally Poached in the Netherlands
Since wolves returned to the Netherlands, at least 41 of the animals have been killed by poachers, according to an extensive investigation by independent agency EcoJust. Researchers describe the phenomenon as "no fringe issue" but rather a widespread network of organized poaching operating with near-total impunity and tacit support from significant parts of rural communities.
Most wolves are shot, but the investigation also uncovered evidence of deliberate vehicular killings. Carcasses are buried, burned in fire barrels, or dumped in manure pits - techniques specifically chosen to destroy evidence, the researchers detail based on witness testimony and information found on social media networks.
The report identifies livestock farmers and hunters as the primary groups behind the poaching. The findings paint a grim picture of systematic lawlessness surrounding the protection of the species, which has been a deeply polarizing issue in Dutch rural areas since wolves reestablished themselves across the country 😔

Many years ago, we had a wolf committee of five people. But we had only one wolf. 😂
