Dobby's Grave in Wales Saved After Harry Potter Fans Fight New Power Cable

A new power cable between Ireland's County Wexford and Freshwater West beach in Wales threatened to run straight through the memorial site of Harry Potter's beloved house-elf Dobby. Fans flooded the electricity company with calls to stop the plans - and it worked. The developer has now adjusted the route, laying the cable around "the grave".

Freshwater West is where Dobby's death scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 was filmed. Over the years, the filming location grew into an unofficial memorial, covered with stones and socks bearing messages to the fictional character, who died saving Harry and his friends from followers of the dark wizard Voldemort.

After the outcry, the project developer revisited the plans and came up with an alternative that bypasses the memorial site entirely.

"We came very close to some real Bronze Age remains, but we avoided Dobby's grave. Many people were very happy about that," said Simon Ludlam, according to the BBC. "The project is now going ahead, and Dobby is happy."
