Well, having users is motivating, or your name is dfox.
I am motivated to see that my style of development - what is totally not mainstream, even discouraged - works out in the best way possible. There are some weird standards out there. Take Django REST framework. That is really retarded. REST does not deserve its own framework. I can go totally hardcore on wrong industry standards. 😤
What also really helps is not treating it as a project you do for a job. For example, this project is not PEP8 / linted at all. Weak shit. The CI pipeline is down because of some failing test with testdata issue. Who cares. Refactoring? Well, it's that we have AI now. Docs? Well, it's that we have AI now (and our docs are freaking insane - more than 700kb markdown). The project is reviewed to be an A- in structure, and that's the only thing I really care about.
I think I've spent an hour on that answer with my phone in my hand and a fresh line of motivational amphetamine in front of me. Highly recommend. 😄
And my answer still sucked. 😩
