Elevator in Senior Apartment Complex Has Been Broken for Months, Residents Trapped

Residents of the Mozartflat in Doorwerth are raising the alarm. Since January, the elevator in their senior apartment complex has failed 39 times, leaving elderly and mobility-impaired tenants barely able to leave their homes.

The eight-story building houses a large number of residents who have difficulty walking. Technicians have declared the elevator beyond repair. Residents are hoping for a replacement, but in the meantime, a temporary lift could provide relief. The municipality has already approved that, but according to the residents, housing association Mooiland considers it too expensive.

Hart van Nederland reached out to Mooiland for a response, but the housing corporation declined to comment.

For the residents stuck on upper floors, every day without a working elevator means another day of isolation. Many are dependent on others for groceries and basic errands. The situation has dragged on for months with no clear resolution in sight, despite the municipality's approval for a temporary fix that the housing association refuses to fund.
