Family Dog Kills Four-Year-Old Girl While She Was Playing

A four-year-old girl was fatally mauled by the family dog while playing in an apartment in Drosa, a town in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The animal is believed to be an American Staffordshire Terrier, a breed known for its muscular build.

Bystanders tried to separate the dog and the child, but could not prevent the toddler from sustaining fatal injuries. A doctor who arrived at the scene pronounced the girl dead. The dog has been taken to an animal shelter, though authorities have not disclosed what will happen to it.

Police have launched an investigation into the roles of the girl's 32-year-old mother and a 30-year-old acquaintance, examining whether the attack could have been prevented. The mayor of Γ–sternienburger Land, the municipality that includes Drosa, told a regional broadcaster that the family dog had been involved in a previous biting incident but had passed a temperament test afterward.

That four year old must have deserved it. Bitch. Long live the doggo. 😈

Also keep in mind that a decent dog costs 600,- euro - and you can get a new kid for free. It's pure economics.

Would've been interesting to know whether there had been some provocation going on. Still, kill the dog, fine && penalize the owner.

It was the family dog. You want to fine the parents that just found out their sweet pupper is a killer and just found their daughter unlived? That’s dark, even for a gothic 😈

Fine || Jail. Come on... there's definitely some blame in there. Also, the owner... could've been the parents', could've been the acquaintance's. No clue whose dog it was.

The mayor's statement about a previous biting incident followed by a temperament test is the real red flag here. Temperament tests are notoriously unreliable for predicting future aggression, especially in high-arousal situations with small children.
