Criminal Son Banned From Parents' Home in Lelystad

A man from Lelystad has been banned by a judge from coming within 50 meters of his parents' home for two years. The parents took the extraordinary step of requesting the court order after their son subjected them to months of threats and violence. Until roughly three years ago, the man lived with his parents. According to local media, he became addicted and got involved in criminal circles. After his parents kicked him out, they had little contact with him. Yet he kept showing up near their home, where he was involved in eleven separate incidents of violence and intimidation. He shattered the windows of his parents' house and their car, assaulted his younger brother, and was seen standing in front of the house with a firearm. In 2024, he was arrested for a shooting incident at the property. Late February this year, he was reportedly involved in an explosion at the home. The mayor ordered the house closed for over a week, forcing part of the family to sleep in their car. The youngest children were placed with relatives. The housing corporation held the parents responsible and considered terminating their lease. When the municipality refused to impose a street ban, the parents went to court. The judge granted the ban and added a penalty of 500 euros per violation, up to 5,000 euros maximum, if the son comes within the restricted zone.
