An honest question

So, as the internet ( Reddit) is filled with AI haters that would probably review bomb me into the oblivion for using AI art pieces I decided to give them a chance to basically help a real artist and contribute so the game would be AI free while not losing the visual coherence and quality.

Shall I release early access so the AI haters can buy the game and every single cent will be paying an artist to replace the AI art?

Personally, I'm strictly against entertainment-focused generative AI outside of private / private group settings, especially if the product it supposed to be a commercial one.

Your sentiment regarding this is extremely flawed though. "AI haters", as you call them, won't ever buy your game in a meaningful quantity just to get the images replaced. They would be still buying a game that was sold with AI assets and no guarantee that you will actually hire human artists and make the game enjoyable for them, who at this point already bought the game, just sitting there in their library, in any acceptable timeframe.

You have a better chance to succeed in this by hiring a small artist right now, get them to make rough concept placeholder artworks and then start a kickstarter-like campaign to finance polished, professional artworks.

The average reaction you will get with you idea is just "ew. AI slop." and then they scroll on and never even spend another thought on it.

Sure, do I have the approx the โ‚ฌ50K to hire someone who will produce the 500 Card images and the 350+ UI elements that doesn't look crap?

The truth hurts, I guess.

I will not make a crap because someone is hurt by AI, I would gladly do it with an artist but as I said I don't have money for it.
I think this mentality ONLY benefits the large corporations which does have the money for the 100+ artists and pushing indies to produce crap.

You asked a question, the idea is simply unrealistic, because the thought processes of the people you are literally asking about, are completely against you in this regard.

You will likely get bombarded by reviews like "lolol, dev wants us to pay to fix their AI slop game trollolol", instead of the reviews you were already expecting.

What you think about this mentality honestly doesn't matter in the scope of your question. You very obviously do care about the possible and likely result of releasing a game with AI assets. Either you change that or you don't, but the proposed idea won't change much about the outcome you already thought of. Anti-AI people are simply not going to buy AI content with the hope that the developer keeps their word.

Just to add to my comments: I'm not judging you or anything. I'm just giving you the perspective I, as well as many other people share on this topic. The two best options in my opinion would be to either hire a small artist for concept work or simply release and deal with the potential backlash if you are okay with it. Because it would happen in either scenario, just slightly different in wording.

Yeah, I know. And I really appreciate your feedback as I tend to go head on crazy ideas :D Helps a lot. Please keep commenting :D

I agree here. People lost the ability to believe that someone might actually do something in a good faith.
I am not making the game for any financial reasons anyways, and would genuinely feel good to pay artists with profit. But I can't change how people operate, and the general untrust.
I could even make a public website that would literally show what is still to be replaced, what is waiting, and even cc the artist who was comisioned for it.

If you already have the graphics and they look great, replacing them just to please AI haters would be insane. Keep them.

Make a transparent statement:
Your game uses AI to help you with the graphics, not for coding the game for you.
This will hopefully make clear that it's not AI slop.
