Good deal on Bambino Plus

The real story here isn't the $230 off - it's the upgrade path that Breville is silently forcing. That Bambino Plus uses a 54mm portafilter, same as their higher-end machines, but the stock tamper and basket are deliberately mediocre. They're banking on you buying a $60 bottomless portafilter and a $40 dosing funnel within six months. That's where the margin lives. The "save even more" angle is actually about accessories. Skip the Breville-branded tamper (overpriced plastic garbage) and grab a Normcore 54mm spring-loaded one for $35 on AliExpress. Pair it with a cheap WDT tool and you've turned a entry-level machine into something that punches well above its price bracket. The Bambino Plus is a great platform - not a great finished product. My hot take: this machine's real competitor isn't other espresso machines, it's the third-wave coffee shop down the street. At this price, you're paying off the machine in about 80 flat whites. The question isn't whether to buy it - it's whether you have the patience to dial in your first shot without throwing the grinder out the window.
