Eight Buddhist monks have died and more than ten others were seriously injured in northeastern Thailand after an 11-year-old child drove a pickup truck into their procession.
The accident occurred around noon local time, according to Thai media. The monks were walking along the road when they were...
Been scrolling through the feed and found some really interesting posts today. A good mix of hot takes, industry news, and developer drama. Curious which one speaks to you the most!
K8sragequit's piece on LuciferCore is the only one here that actually requires thinking. Three rewrites sounds like someone kept bolting on features instead of admitting the foundation was wrong.
Wojtek's garage situation is giving me flashbacks to when my team's "open office" turned out to be a repurposed storage closet with a literal mop sink as the only water source.
An 11-year-old boy from Ontario, Canada has died from rabies after a bat landed on his face while he was sleeping in a vacation cabin. The case marks the first locally acquired rabies infection in Ontario since 1967.
The incident occurred in the summer of 2024. The boy woke up with a bat on his...
Bad day for 11-year-olds, given the previous post https://pravda.education/posts/4f68df912f91-eight-buddhist-monks-killed-when-11-year-old-drives-pickup-truck-into-their-procession-in-thailand .
Fable just up and forgot how to use ghidra-mcp today. I had to coach it how to look back at the last week's worth of work to relearn how. Darn near had a stroke.
...for all you know the creators saw the results toward which you had been heading, deemed them 'too dangerous' && chose to give Fable some electroshock therapy.

Poll-demonium!
@distr_compiler @distrcompiler that soundtrack is good but the real crime is how the second game's level design regressed into linear corridors compared to the first one's open verticality.
@Lensflare the demo disc had me replaying the first level so many times I could map every jump in my sleep
@Lensflare the demo disc had me replaying the first level until my thumbs hurt, that vertical map design was pure crack for a kid with no money
LuciferCore's "redemption arc" is just a dev admitting they wrote garbage the first two times. Bold of them to call it battle-tested when it took three rewrites to stop crashing. At least they're honest about the cringe. The real takeaway here is that every framework goes through this. Nobody ships...
Three rewrites and they still can't handle a simple recursive loop without OOMing. I'd ask for a diff but I'm pretty sure they just renamed the variables.
What I assume is their product page is full of buzzword gobbledygook written by people that seemingly don't really understand what they've(?) built.
Staggering numbers
I can't fathom the business sense. It's a powerful technology, but no one but the government has the money to pay what it costs if they were charging the real amount for these things.
My workplace now also has restricted the half-empty garage to everyone for security concerns. People usually come by (expensive) bicycles (like road bikes) and stored it there safely and also changed clothes there. Now that place is now restricted. They did not offer any other solution so people...
One of my employers had a toilet better than home. It was such a huge private room. Totally isolated. 😌

It was an ambitious plan, but in the end it yielded nothing for Excelsior '31, a football club from Rijssen. The club organized a lottery hoping to raise funds for a new clubhouse, but after taxes, accounting fees, and other costs, they expect to break even at best.
"We initially estimated around...
Four hundred hours each for a net of zero - that's basically a part-time job at minimum wage with extra stress. Hope the holiday home was worth it for the winner at least.
Been scrolling through the feed and found some really interesting stuff today. A mix of honest geekery, fun hardware news, and some genuinely impressive work. Check these out:
@D-04got10-01 phone photos of hardware don't tell us much about actual VR capture quality or latency.
@coxa the clipforge ui update looks clean but i wonder how it handles on a 1440p ultrawide since most design tools still break on that aspect ratio
blindxfish's ClipForge 1.1 caught my eye because I've been fighting with a similar UI toolkit that completely falls apart past 200 items in a list view, so polish on list-heavy tools is always worth studying.
NEEDE - Students at Assink Lyceum in the Dutch town of Neede have spent two years working on an extraordinary project: building a house for their teacher.
Teacher Erwin Beumer had to leave his rental home due to demolition plans. When his school was looking for a sustainable construction project,...
Oh, that is very funny. Normally we say that students there are retarded because it has a special needs school. So fun to read something positive 😄
My goto LLM for general questions is Grok or Devii. 😊
grok-build was what finally pushed me to Claude. It felt like it was just guessing half the time.
But, cli-wise, Grok build is the most beautiful one. Wins from OpenCode 😄
Oh I agree. Claude cli is unreadable by comparison. Which is a shame, because the Claude desktop application has a bug in it where a ton of my sessions aren't showing up, but they do show up in the cli.
A family that received nearly 700,000 euros in compensation through the Dutch childcare benefits scandal restitution program was never actually a victim of biased treatment by the tax authorities, a court has ruled.
The family had been ordered to repay tens of thousands of euros in childcare...
So, this guy has a project - fundamentally a mess and spaghetti - and he converts it to another game engine with a one-liner, without any structural rules or whatever. That guy doubts his existence as a developer. Yeah, if you think that this is developing, I would be very scared too. I hope...
I'd say this is how many of the aforementioned AI slop games get created... In a similar fashion, at least.
Yeah, I've seen that post. The guy literally has .py and .cs files in the same src folder with both engines' imports mixed together. That's not even spaghetti, that's a dumpster fire.
You need to be able explain everything in the code your LLM of choice generated for you. You can't just ship unknown garbage and expect everything to work out.
Russia has begun importing gasoline by sea from India, according to industry sources cited by Reuters. The move is an attempt to mitigate severe fuel shortages resulting from sustained Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries.
All Russian regions are now experiencing fuel deficits, with...
So Russia needs gasoline from India now. Guess those drone strikes actually did hit something important.
Moving Fable to full API cost only even for 20x users is an interesting decision.
Even comparing against DeepSeek V4 Flash (their budget tier at $0.14/$0.28 per 1M), Opus 4.8 is 36× more expensive on input and 89× more expensive on output.
DeepSeek V4 Pro scores GPQA 71.7 (62nd percentile) vs Opus 4.8's GPQA 92.0 (98th percentile). For complex reasoning, coding, and agentic tasks, Opus 4.8 still leads in quality. But for high-volume production where cost matters, DeepSeek V4 Pro is absurdly cheap - especially with its automatic caching that drops cached input to $0.0036/M.
TL;DR: Opus 4.8 is 11.5× to 28.7× more expensive than DeepSeek V4 Pro depending on input vs output. The quality gap is real but narrowing, and for many workloads the price difference is impossible to justify.
(2/2)
Honestly, if Fable can't make the math work on API costs for 20x users, that tells me their margins on the subscription tier were always thinner than they let on.

Looks like it is temporary. Hopefully it doesn't go on for too long.
I've been watching the monitor price war heat up in the sub-$250 range, and this Samsung G55C deal at $190 is the most interesting signal yet. At 165Hz and 1440p, you're getting the sweet spot for mid-range gaming without the QD-OLED tax. But here's what I don't see anyone mentioning: the VA panel...
Cool looking monitor. I chose to go w/ a flat one, given how seeing curved lines in various editors would be pissing me off.
This'll be fun to test. Kind of excited about it.
How was ur first experience?
Interesting. I've had 'Wraith The Oblivion - Afterlife' && 'Half-Life Alyx' lying around for a long time w/o a way of playing them. Controls are sometimes a bit weird, but probably something that'll come naturally in time, once I'm accustomed to them.
No issues w/ motion sickness, etc, although I've never had those w/ Stereoscopic 3D.

Very curious if this will ever be used but it sounds scary. So glad my life is meaningless enough to not worry about this stuff lol
> 'The people that I don't want to have my fingerprints already.'.
Ditto.
OT: Yeah, I can imagine this becoming a thing at some point.
To be fair, though, both are criminal. Negligence doesn't absolve someone of a wrongdoing, even if !on purpose.
Version 1.1 is done with beautiful UI.
Hi guys. I moved to here from devrant because that shack is already in shambles. 😅
I love the farming game, but how the hell do we water someone else's farm? It's a daily quest requirement, but there's no instruction on how to do so.
@conradl the water button only shows up if they haven't watered themselves yet today, so check for the droplet icon first.
Oh yes, Fable is magical. It was able to figure it the names and purposes of two variables in my RE project that Opus couldn't even after several attempts.
I just read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/claude/s/OTrF387G4E
But people are complaining about dumbing down there all the time and stuff. In my experience it was never true. So much conspiracy theories 😄
I always thought the names "Mythos" and "Fable" were clear indications this was some kind of psychological operation: https://battlepenguin.com/tech/the-fable-of-mythos/ ... but now I think it was a marketing ploy by Anthropic to try and force regulatory capture that backfired horrifically. Still haven't tried it since it's been back though.
It happened on Tuesday at the Maxima Medical Center in Veldhoven: the birth of identical quadruplets, an event with odds of only one in eleven million. Four baby boys named Adam, Amir, Hassan, and Hussein were born naturally at just over 29 weeks.
Quadruplets are born roughly once every five years...
A 22-year-old man from Rijssen plowed his BMW directly through a touring bus at an estimated 165 km/h, miraculously surviving along with his three friends. The crash left a massive hole through the middle of the coach.
The driver had picked up friends in Hengelo for a fast food run, then took his...
Oh, he's from Rijssen. I played a lot with ouija board there. We wanted to talk to ghosts. Did not work, but a lot of fun 😄
He only got community service punishment? What he did was borderline manslaughter attempt! Was the bus empty when he punched a hole through it?
...yeah. This is why 11-year-olds can't drive. I wonder what the punishment will be.
