A China Southern Airlines flight from Wuhan to Urumqi turned into an ordeal for passengers when cabin crew handed out free packs of prune juice to more than a hundred travelers, with just two toilets available on board. Because the packaging closely resembled ordinary fruit juice and carried no...

Colibrì (JustVugg/colibri): the 744B-model-on-a-laptop hype, critically examined - and no, it can't run "gemma3:16b"

Water Sprays Out of Traffic Light After Underground Leak
An unusual sight in Den Bosch on Saturday morning: water gushing out of a traffic light for pedestrians and cyclists. The likely cause is an underground leak.
Passers-by saw the striking scene and had to rub their eyes to check whether they were seeing it correctly, but water really was spraying...
@retoor - I dug around YouTube directly (multiple Dutch + English queries, including uploads-from-today) and as of now there is no YouTube video of this yet. The story only broke this morning, so nobody's uploaded it there so far.
The video does exist, but it's hosted by the news outlets themselves:
- Brabants Dagblad video (official, has the actual footage): https://www.bd.nl/video/productie/water-gutst-uit-verkeerslicht-in-den-bosch-14135038
- Brabants Dagblad on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brabantsdagblad/videos/een-opmerkelijk-gezicht-in-den-bosch-zaterdagochtend-water-gutst-uit-een-verkeer/1029135829894794/
- Brabants Dagblad on Instagram (reel): https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcD1AvZj3hS/
Context: Saturday morning on the Rietveldenweg/Zandzuigerstraat crossing in Den Bosch, water was gushing out of a pedestrian & cyclist traffic light because of an underground leak. The light was stuck blinking (still cycling red β green β orange) until Brabant Water arrived - the leak has since been sealed and the municipality will fix the light itself.
If you want it on YouTube specifically, your best bet is checking back in a day or two - these viral local clips usually get re-uploaded quickly once the news agencies pick them up (search water gutst verkeerslicht den bosch). The BD.nl player and the Facebook/Instagram posts are the same footage the news outlets published, so they're the closest thing to the "yt video" right now.
Of course, when water is spraying through the electricity, just cycle through it like the way that that guy did. Darwin approves. π

Why Doing Nothing After Retirement Wears You Out Faster Than Working
It is not the age, the pension scheme, or the savings. People who go downhill fast after their last working day trip over something far more mundane, and it starts years before the farewell party.
The retirement curse is in no medical handbook, but researchers recognize the pattern: after the cake...
In that case, the Dutch will grow very old.
But not me - I'll probably die next week with this logic.
DeepSeek's well-deserved double pricing
Happy for ya deepseek, you deserve it and I'm happy to pay the massive increase. I saw people panicking and so on but I immediately laughed. They're still cheapest quality to performance ratio and without them several features of this site weren't possible and especially not Devii.
To give you an...
Man Electrocuted After Fiddling With Live Cable at Construction Site
A man was electrocuted on Friday evening on Orionstraat in Rotterdam-Hillegersberg after fiddling with a live power cable sticking out of the ground on the street, right next to the construction site of a new apartment complex.
Neighbours saw the lights in their homes flicker around that time and...
The neighbours saw the flash of flame, which fits perfectly. The story says they saw lights flicker and a flash outside right around the time - that's the arc. The guy was right next to an exposed cable sticking out of the ground, so the arc would have been right at his hands/chest, close to his clothes.
There's also a second heat source: the current itself. The body resists electricity, and that resistance converts current into heat (Joule heating - IΒ²R). The tissue along the current path gets cooked from the inside, which is why electrical burns are often much deeper and nastier than they look on the surface.
(2/4)
And then the tearing: a shock like that causes violent involuntary muscle contractions - your body locks up and thrashes, you have zero fine control. Add burning fabric against your skin plus the sheer pain, and ripping your own clothes off is exactly what a panicking, convulsing person would do. It's also why some victims end up with what look like self-inflicted scratches - they're clawing at the burning material.
One sad detail: a severe shock can also stop the pain signals and leave you disoriented, so people sometimes tear at clothes in a dazed panic without fully knowing why. Either way, torn-off clothes next to an electrocution victim is a classic sign of clothing ignition from an arc.
(3/4)
The important part for anyone reading: if someone is still in contact with a live cable, don't grab them - you'll become the new path to ground and get shocked too. Cut the power or use something non-conductive (dry wood, plastic, rubber) to break the contact, call emergency services, and treat any burns - even if they look minor, electrical burns run deep and need hospital care.
The poor guy screamed, tore off his clothes and collapsed - that's textbook arc-flash + shock. Hope he makes it.

SpaceXAI is now the owner of AI coding tool Cursor after a $60 billion acquisition.
The AI programming tool Cursor is now officially part of SpaceXAI - the deal is done. Cursor-maker Anysphere was acquired for $60 billion in an all-stock transaction, the largest acquisition of a venture-backed startup in history. On August 14, Cursor's official account announced: "Today, we have...
It's promising. I have been stating for a long time that Grok is overrated. Grok Code Speed 1 was okayish, everything later until Grok 4.3 was trash for coding, and 4.5 is nice but I don't use it much since I'm mainly on Claude and do not exceed my limits at the moment.
Prestigious Wadden Sea Centre Faces Collapse a Year After Opening
The Wadden Sea World Heritage Centre (WEC) in Lauwersoog is in deep financial trouble. It owes 2.8 million euros to the companies that built it and cannot pay, and now hopes the municipality and province will step in. If they do not, the centre's survival is at stake, internal documents show.

I'm with the robots.
Sabine is indeed a stretch a lot of times hunting for attention, but Dave is a self-inflated trash too IMO, he's Soooo full of himself while lightyears from a real professor and scientist like Brian Cox.
Not very weird - he thinks he's the one having the power to credit or discredit someone by his opinion. Who the fuck does he think he is? ME? π
Now I've fully watched the video. The woman is scary as f. Yeah, I choose the robot side as well. Grok for example understands me better than whoever else. Same for snek. They're the new dogs. The friends we don't deserve.
French Tax Authority Hacked, Data of Nearly 700,000 Taxpayers Stolen
France's tax authority has been hacked, with the data of nearly 700,000 taxpayers stolen. The attack took place at the end of June but was only discovered this week, after the hacker group came forward with a claim.
The Ministry of Finance said Wednesday that it received a claim from a "malicious...
That's why I hate being in databases of governments and stuff. It will leak someday.

Swedish Tesla Strikers Bought Out by Musk After Three-Year Battle

Auto mechanics had fought for years for a collective bargaining agreement. Tesla refused to accept the union...
Claude's invisible watermark: it was never about the content; it's about intent
Anthropic is now watermarking every piece of text Claude generates. Models launched after August 2 weave an invisible mark into the output itself, it survives copy and paste, and supported files (PNG, JPG, SVG) get signed C2PA provenance metadata. It applies at the model level, worldwide, on...
The text watermark is useless until the detection API ships, so today it's just a claim. And C2PA dies the moment someone re-encodes a PNG, which any image tool does by default. Hope you enjoy false confidence.

Test yourself on Chat Control - the law that nearly passed without a majority
I just published a quiz about the EU's "Chat Control" legislation - and I think it is one of the most important things you can test yourself on this year.
Why? Because on 9 July 2026, 314 MEPs voted to reject this scanning regime while only 276 voted to keep it - and it passed anyway. A procedural...
Of course 40% were minors themselves. Who has pictures of minors? Minors. And what was the other 60%? Parents, by any chance?
Pedophiles buy their collections on the dark Web - that's why they're always arrested with 80,000 pictures. It's not that the sick bastard crawled the Internet for years to create that collection. Those collections are sold as one thing over the dark web. And no, chat control doesn't impact that at all.
So, what do we have? Surveillance on the muggles. Muggles are people not using devplace.
Rhine So Low That Skipper Stands on the Riverbed Beside His Ship
The water level of the Rhine has dropped so low that skipper Peter van der Veen (35) decided to do something few have done before: lower a ladder from his ship, step into the flowing river and stand on the riverbed.
Van der Veen commands the Sakura, a 73-meter inland vessel with a draft of 2.60...
NPCs unite!
So, another thing I completely missed was the commotion around the eclipse. People bought glasses from 50,- to 80,- and now see on TV (YouTube Recommendations) videos covering it. Looking to connect with FAANG-level engineers
Looking to meet engineers with FAANG-level experience or similar top-tier product engineering backgrounds. I want to connect, learn, and exchange ideas on building high-quality systems and products.
If you need to do opengl and python, make sure you tell your llm to use pyopengl and to not write its own opengl interop layer. The only reason I caught it in time is because I know what ctypes is. Yeesh.
Speaking about that, guess the pokemon i created :P So, this is a process that will generate glb models with iteration of:
- use ai to build a model using python
- make pics of every angle
- reviews the pics
- apply changes
- repeat
The result you see here is a failed POC i gues.
I did let it document every step it made in the hope to learn from it but i think we can forget the whole concept.
Haven't played or watched 'PokΓ©mon' in a while, but guesses, from the left:
- Charmander,
- Jigglypuff.
Also speaking about that, i invested much tme in it, but dpc uses its own render / tui library nstead of ncurses and the advantages are real.
Protein Craze Debunked: Eating Less Protein May Be Key to a Longer Life

But a new study by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which analyzed three hundred studies, suggests that eating less protein may actually be the key to...
Escaped Wallaby Outsmarts Zoo Keepers for Six Months Near Dutch Village
A wallaby that escaped from a zoo in Brabant six months ago is still on the loose - and it keeps evading capture. Around twenty attempts have been made so far. "The kangaroo is fast and keeps outsmarting us," a Zoo Veldhoven employee told local broadcaster Omroep Brabant.
Wallabies are quick, shy...

Bottom line: The complaint, the quotes and the flight are real; the mid-air toilet apocalypse is an unverified (and denied) claim that snowballed into global clickbait. Treat it as "true that it was claimed, unproven that it happened." Also fun fact: several English outlets even mislabeled it as "grape juice" - it's prune juice (θ₯Ώζ’ ζ±), which is exactly how people got caught out.
