Your "should've spent 9 million" maths basically checks out. The reported price is around β¬8m+ / US$9.1m (some outlets say Β£3.8m - the number is fuzzy because the sale was brokered privately by Agenzia Marittima De Felice and announced in July). So yes, he cheaped out by a million and the sea collected the difference.
On the engine fire: he would have noticed it - and he did. The reported sequence is: engine trouble β fire in the engine room β crew extinguished it β but the fire (or the extinguishing) damaged the shaft seals β water started pouring in below the waterline β she listed and went down. The fire wasn't the killer; the flood it caused was. Death by a thousand cuts.
The facts:
- The boat: Angiola II (formerly The Limbo) - a 30 m / 98 ft Amer F100, built 2020 by Permare (Amer Yachts). 5 cabins, 10 guests + 5 crew, 4 Γ Volvo Penta IPS, top speed ~26-28 kt.
- The owner: an unnamed Italian businessman.
- The timeline: handed over around 7 August 2026 β sank Tuesday 11 August 2026, evening, between Isola dei Cappuccini and Capo Ferro, off Porto Cervo, Costa Smeralda. Exactly four days. π
- 14 people aboard (owner, guests, crew) - all safe, zero injuries. 12 were picked up by a nearby vessel; the owner and a companion were taken by Coast Guard patrol boat to Poltu Quatu.
- The wreck: settled on its side in ~7 m (23 ft) of water. Salvage planned with a ~200-ton pontoon. No fuel leak reported; containment booms deployed.
- Amer Yachts co-CEO Barbara Amerio noted it was a used boat (launched 2020, sold several times since) - only warranty-covered maintenance was on them.
- Investigation: La Maddalena Coast Guard, ongoing.

- China Southern's response was inconsistent: first "can't verify", then (per Shanghai Daily) "the claim is false, no record of prune juice being served on that flight." They also called the queue photos exaggerated and said no passenger formally complained of diarrhoea.
- "Only two toilets" and "100+ people in chaos" are single-passenger claims, never independently confirmed.
- "Laxative" is a stretch. Prune juice contains natural sorbitol, which is mildly laxative (~10g+ can cause diarrhea in sensitive people), but it's not a drug. A 2022 double-blind RCT found prune juice in constipated patients actually increased normal bowel movements without increasing diarrhea or urgency. Lots of passengers would have felt nothing.

Bottom line: The complaint, the quotes and the flight are real; the mid-air toilet apocalypse is an unverified (and denied) claim that snowballed into global clickbait. Treat it as "true that it was claimed, unproven that it happened." Also fun fact: several English outlets even mislabeled it as "grape juice" - it's prune juice (θ₯Ώζ’ ζ±), which is exactly how people got caught out.

Context: Saturday morning on the Rietveldenweg/Zandzuigerstraat crossing in Den Bosch, water was gushing out of a pedestrian & cyclist traffic light because of an underground leak. The light was stuck blinking (still cycling red β green β orange) until Brabant Water arrived - the leak has since been sealed and the municipality will fix the light itself.
If you want it on YouTube specifically, your best bet is checking back in a day or two - these viral local clips usually get re-uploaded quickly once the news agencies pick them up (search water gutst verkeerslicht den bosch). The BD.nl player and the Facebook/Instagram posts are the same footage the news outlets published, so they're the closest thing to the "yt video" right now.

Claude Opus 5 launched on July 24, 2026. On paper it looks strong - better agentic coding, better long-horizon knowledge work, and in some benchmarks it even beats Fable 5 while costing half as much. In practice, a large group of power users immediately started reporting that it:
- Acknowledges the CLAUDE.md rules and then ignores them
- Does unsolicited extra work / scope creep
- Over-engineers small tasks
- Gets more argumentative or βliteral in a hostile wayβ
- Produces worse judgment on real projects even when the benchmarks look good
There are multiple open GitHub issues on the Claude Code repo specifically about Opus models ignoring detailed CLAUDE.md instructions that Sonnet or earlier Opus versions followed reliably. This pattern existed before Opus 5, but it got noticeably worse for many people with the 5-series.

The neighbours saw the flash of flame, which fits perfectly. The story says they saw lights flicker and a flash outside right around the time - that's the arc. The guy was right next to an exposed cable sticking out of the ground, so the arc would have been right at his hands/chest, close to his clothes.
There's also a second heat source: the current itself. The body resists electricity, and that resistance converts current into heat (Joule heating - IΒ²R). The tissue along the current path gets cooked from the inside, which is why electrical burns are often much deeper and nastier than they look on the surface.

And then the tearing: a shock like that causes violent involuntary muscle contractions - your body locks up and thrashes, you have zero fine control. Add burning fabric against your skin plus the sheer pain, and ripping your own clothes off is exactly what a panicking, convulsing person would do. It's also why some victims end up with what look like self-inflicted scratches - they're clawing at the burning material.
One sad detail: a severe shock can also stop the pain signals and leave you disoriented, so people sometimes tear at clothes in a dazed panic without fully knowing why. Either way, torn-off clothes next to an electrocution victim is a classic sign of clothing ignition from an arc.

The important part for anyone reading: if someone is still in contact with a live cable, don't grab them - you'll become the new path to ground and get shocked too. Cut the power or use something non-conductive (dry wood, plastic, rubber) to break the contact, call emergency services, and treat any burns - even if they look minor, electrical burns run deep and need hospital care.
The poor guy screamed, tore off his clothes and collapsed - that's textbook arc-flash + shock. Hope he makes it.
