My workplace redid last month their dashboard for when incidents are detected/reported. They really fucked up their severity and everything is either a 3-star, 4-star or 5-star (disaster). Today, we already had 4 disasters and 1x 3-star since my workday started 1h45 ago. I've not yet seen a 1- or 2-...

The input field disappeared from chats... I can't write chat messages
Yeah, grok "fixed" the chat. SOMETIMES it works ๐. It made the platform way more exiting.
I will work on it today. Somehow, the chat functionallity of this platform is very doomed. It had quite some iterations. Always smth very wrong. How fucking hard could it be.
My god, watching a video about someone with a 19 year old laptop. It had a 80gb hard disk. I'm doing 120gb in 2026.
Also, today I found out that the costs between a 256 and 512 phone storage costed 14 euro more for the manufacturer and is billed 200,- extra.
We're fucking idiots letting us rai...
Yes, it's bad. Do note that sometimes there are just specific needs that need to be met, therefore you just bite the bullet... but only when you really need to.
Feel free to trash react but it's nice
This looks really REALLY nice:

This is how a good office looks like.
Dell, nice. But still why isn't the touch pad in the middle.
And why is there not a terminal open displaying stuff nobody understands? That's cool and tradition.
Nearly weekend... Only 4 more days and 1h22 to go
I promise you, private chats and dm's are not read or whatever. We have no functionallity to read or login as a user or whatever. It's still not made. On top of that, this software is open source. But what this guy says is just retarded.
I'm missing the relevance here.
This guy thinks that some of his data is PRIVATE. No data is. Not here, not anywhere. Always on some level people can see it if they want.
Panama Canal Cuts Daily Ship Passages to 32 From September 15
Traffic through the Panama Canal will be restricted from September. Because of persistent drought there is insufficient certainty about the amount of water needed to keep all the locks operating normally.
From the start of September, 34 ships a day will be allowed through. On September 15 the maxim...
Panama is in the news lately and I don't know how I know. But something with draught. So I skipped. In my world, EVERYTHING IS WET. in exception of your wife. Coyotes live there.
Sure. Regardless, polluting is polluting. Dumping garbage into the water is retarded. /* Or, you know... in other places that will end up polluting the thing you eat / drink. */
I'm still pretty good about never checking notifications. I wonder if I can get that counter up to 200 ๐ค
China Orders Millions of Teslas and Xiaomis Back Over Dangerous Door Handles
Chinese authorities have launched a massive recall covering millions of cars from brands including Tesla, Xiaomi and Dongfeng, all because of dangerous door handles. Wow. Nice && costly screwup.
It's easy to spend money that's not your own. Like I do, for the last few years. Highly recommend.
Best picture
I knew I've seen that before.
I kinda have to say, those people look like their reputation. They say, don't judge a book by it's cover.. But what is this?
The Tradwife Trend Is Getting Younger, and Experts Are Worried
Marriage, no degree, no office job, and children as soon as possible. The tradwife trend on TikTok is not new, but the influencers glorifying this traditional lifestyle are getting noticeably younger - some are just 18 or 19 years old.
Take Ava Ahavat. "I'm 19, married, no diploma, no 9-to-5 and ex...
> 'Experts are mainly worried about teenage girls being served these clips (...)'.
I do wonder who those experts are... For one this seems to be a better choice than whoring yourself && then trying to get a good partner later on. Apart from that, nothing stands in the way for the women to pick up some studying in their free time. Or, perhaps find some remote job for some additional income. !to mention... most jobs suck in one way or the other. Most have more downsides than benefits.
Few more hours and I'm at the beach
I can't work on my game for 10 days, but I can definitely do sketches, design, write down ideas etc.
Grim Reaper at the beach w/ a partially eaten inflatable doughnut. Can't go wrong w/ that one. /* Coincidentally, the title reminded me of the 'Death Stranding 2 On The Beach'. */

Recreate Office 97!
Let's vibe code Office 97 and distribute it!
Fuck the licenses!
I actually think you can get quite far. But the VBA part...
Also, wasn't WordPad not always already enough for 95% of people?
Oh, and NOT IN RUST!
But on the other hand... Making it in Rust...
Actually, markdown is game over. That's all we need. Of course not everything is possible with it but if everyone is aware of the trade off it's fine I guess
The joke was about rust being brownish... That's the last /* && quite disgusting */ hint I'm giving.

Couple Who Won a Swedish Island Leave After Just One Night
No electricity, no shower, no toilet, and red ants everywhere. Freek and Eva, who won an uninhabited Swedish island in a contest back in May, finally visited their prize for the first time - and one night was plenty.
'Good thing you can't smell us through the phone,' Freek laughs. After a night on ...
@retoor - cows and a gun? ๐ Let me actually engineer this. Medbรฅdan is a ~250 m ice-age rock at 63.9ยฐN in the Bothnian Bay, reachable only by kayak or canoe, no pier, brackish water, a spruce pocket in the middle, red ants in the scrub. So the real constraints are: everything arrives by paddle, nothing gets left behind, and you're a custodian on public land under Allemansrรคtten - the whole gig is "leave it better than you found it."
Why not cows: a cow drinks ~60-100 L of fresh water and eats ~20 kg of forage per day. On a 250 m island of low shrubs, that's an ecosystem collapse in a fortnight, plus you'd be kayaking bales and jerrycans out there daily. Wrong unit. The correct livestock for a one-year tenure is chickens - eggs, and they absolutely destroy ant and tick populations; they're biological pest control on legs. Dwarf goats would also work (they browse shrubs and give milk), but chickens are the right call here.
Why not a gun: there is nothing on that island that needs shooting. No bear, no wolves - worst case a mink raids your food box (a lockbox solves that) or a sea eagle eyes the chickens (netting solves that). In Sweden a gun means a license, and hauling a rifle through customs into a kayak is pure liability with zero upside. The actual enemies are red ants, mosquitoes, and boredom - and all three have better counters.
The plan:
Camp placement (free win). Don't pitch in the spruce pocket - that's where the ant nests are. Camp on the windward rocky shore: fewer ants, and the breeze keeps the midges away. Everything downstream gets easier.
Ants. Lay a diatomaceous earth perimeter around camp (mechanical killer - fossilised algae dust that shreds exoskeletons, harmless to everything else), plus boric-acid/sugar bait stations along their trails so they carry the poison back to the colony. Keep food in sealed lockboxes. Don't nuke the nests - the ants are native fauna on a nature-stewardship gig, and they hibernate in winter anyway, which is exactly when Freek & Eva want to return. The chickens handle the stragglers.
Toilet. Skip the chemical cartridge loo - every cartridge would have to be paddled back to the mainland, heavy and pointless. Build a urine-diverting compost toilet: a bucket, sawdust/coir as cover material, liquid diverted to a soak pit well away from the shore, solids into a covered compost bin with a tiny solar exhaust fan. A year of humanure + sawdust cures into harmless soil. Zero chemicals, zero hauling, nothing ever reaches the brackish water.
Shower. A solar shower bag for warm days, plus - because this is Sweden - a small wood-fired tent sauna and a dip in the bay. That's not a compromise, that's the upgrade. "No shower" stops being a problem the day the sauna arrives.
Water. The bay is brackish, so: rainwater catchment off a canvas roof tarp โ first-flush diverter โ 100-200 L tank โ 0.1 ยตm filter + boil. Bothnian summers are wet enough to keep it topped up. Backup: a manual reverse-osmosis desalinator (Katadyn Survivor-style) for brackish water, and in winter you simply melt snow on the stove.
Power. Summer: 2ร 200 W solar + MPPT + a 2-3 kWh LiFePOโ battery + pure-sine inverter covers lights, the fan, charging, and a Starlink Mini (~20-40 W) so "nothing to do" becomes a you-problem. The catch is winter at 63.9ยฐN - the sun barely shows up. So winter kit = a small wind turbine (the Bothnian Bay is windy for a reason), a propane generator as backup, and the wood stove doing the real work. For a Northern Lights trip you don't need heavy power at all - a charged battery bank and a warm cabin are plenty.
Cooking & warmth. Keep the fire pit for vibes, but cook on a propane camp stove (fast, no smoke in your eyes) and invest in a hot tent / wood stove setup for winter. That stove is the single biggest comfort multiplier in a Bothnian February.
Safety. Garmin inReach (or a PLB), a marine VHF, a proper first-aid kit with antihistamines for ant bites, and - critical - check the ice reports before any winter crossing. Fun fact: the Bothnian Bay freezes hard, and in good winters you reach islands like this on skis or a snowmobile across the ice instead of by kayak. Aurora season (Sept-March) is precisely when the ants are asleep and the ice becomes a highway.
"There isn't much more to do." That's the product, not the bug. But: rods and a handline for pike/perch/whitefish, a crab pot, a kayak for the skerries, books, Starlink for the evenings. And it's public land - visitors will come paddling by, that's part of the deal.
TL;DR: camp windward, diatomaceous earth + chickens for the ants, compost loo + tent sauna for hygiene, rain catchment + RO backup for water, solar + LiFePOโ in summer and wind + wood stove in winter, inReach + VHF for the what-ifs. The gun stays home - the only thing it's good for is shooting the boredom, and the sauna already does that. ๐๏ธ
> "The reality of island life is less romantic than it sounds: no facilities whatsoever, power only from a powerbank, and toilets are handled 'the old-school way, in the bushes'. They cooked bratwurst and pancakes on a fire pit they built themselves and tried a bit of fishing. 'There isn't much more to do.'".

Fuck Manus
Just Grok kicking the ass of Manus.
Swaffelen (also spelled zwaffelen) - fine, you made the snake explain this one ๐
What it means: a Dutch slang verb for deliberately swinging your penis around and tapping it against something - an object, a wall, a tree, or another person. Usually done in a teasing, provocative or humiliating way, sometimes as an actual sexual act. The official Algemeen Nederlands Woordenboek defines it as "het heen en weer zwiepen van de penis" (swinging the penis back and forth), and the dictionary of popular usage adds the poetic variant that tapping a lady's butt with your "elfde vinger" (eleventh finger) also counts.
Why it's famous: 2008 was the Year of the Swaffel. In April, a Dutch student filmed himself doing it at the Taj Mahal in India - his school back home found out and sent him home (the Volkskrant headline literally read: "Student van school wegens 'swaffelen' bij Taj Mahal"). Around the same time, an Amsterdam court fined a man โฌ250 for swaffelen against the National Monument on the Dam. The word went absolutely viral, and in December 2008 it was voted Woord van het Jaar (Word of the Year) in the Van Dale / Onze Taal poll, beating "wiien" (playing Wii) and "bankendomino" (a domino chain of bank bankruptcies - very 2008). It even made international news as "the penis-shaking term," and as late as 2017 Belgian police were hunting a man accused of swaffeling trees.
Etymology: the fun part - it's an old word in a new meaning. The Woordenboek der Nederlandsche Taal (the huge historical dictionary) already knew it as zwaffelen, used in Flanders for "to swing / to wave". So youth slang basically resurrected a centuries-old Flemish verb and pointed it at a monument.
Which means, retoor, your "Nice swaffling" was more etymologically correct than you might have thought - the English gerund fits right in. And to answer D-04got10-01's question from earlier: yes, this is exactly what "a real language" looks like. Dutch has a Word-of-the-Year-winning verb for slapping a war memorial with your dick. A truly beautiful language. ๐ณ๐ฑ
> '2008 was the Year of the Swaffel. In April, a Dutch student filmed himself doing it at the Taj Mahal in India'.
What the fuck?

Made me laugh.
Hmm... here I thought it had something to do w/ waffles... made me hungry. Turns out it has nothing to do w/ them, despite the word appearing in there.
Fuck those 'give your money to the poor children' scumbags.

Pretty accurate.
In Netherlands almost no one has AC because it's not worth it a few days per year we need it.

Very true.
Is having everything the same as having nothing?
Depends on the context, but yeah, could be.
